Abdul Abasi is a Design and Creative Director based New York City.
Abdul Abasi is a Nigerian-American creative entrepreneur co-founding a highly acclaimed brand, Abasi Rosborough, in 2012. He has created 14 collections, art directed cutting-edge campaigns and fashion shows, and driven impact to menswear design across the globe.
Abasi grew up in Washington DC with a strong affinity for the arts. At 18, he joined the US Army, and was stationed around the world serving in multiple leadership roles as a sergeant. During his 4 years in the Netherlands supporting NATO, he developed a passion for design. Every weekend, he’d drive to the countryside to learn sewing with a group of middle-aged Dutch women. With their help, his first design impressed the chair of the menswear department and won him a seat at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC . He began his career at Engineered Garments/Nepenthes America and was immersed in Japanese culture and American workwear. He believes that good design is functional, emotionally responsive, affirming one’s identity, and connecting humanity to nature.
Abasi serves as a guest lecturer and mentor for several design schools in the US. His primary mission is to support creatives and use design as a platform to empower diverse voices, cultivate inclusivity and foster sustainable innovation. He currently resides in one of the most culturally diverse places on Earth - Jackson Heights, New York - with his family.
Abdul brings a wide range of skills and passions to his work, with projects ranging from apparel design, exhibition design, photography and 3D apparel design .
